Abstract

Hearing capacity changes throughout a person’s life. The prevalence of permanent significant bilateral hearing loss increases from 1.33 per 1,000 live births, to 2.83 per 1,000 primary school age children, and 3.5 per 1,000 in adolescents. Among the older adults, the prevalence of significant hearing loss increases from 15.4% among people aged in their 60s, to 58.2% among those aged more than 90 years. It is inevitable that speech therapists are serving clients with hearing impairment on regular basis, regardless of their clinical specialty. Apart from community-level hearing screening and hearing rehabilitation, which have always been within the scope of practice of speech therapists, what else can the speech therapists do to manage the clients with hearing impairment? This webinar will focus on the practical tips for speech therapists, in management of, as well as communicating with, clients with hearing impairment in various clinical settings.
