SUMMARY:Sensory Processing Disorders for Speech Language Therapists
DESCRIPTION:Speech- and language therapists working with children know how difficult it can be to meet the individual needs of each child. Especially when this child has trouble processing (sensory) information\, seems difficult to activate\, is too active or very sensitive to sensory input. \nIn this workshop you will learn the basic\, recent (evidence based) and relevant knowledge on sensory processing disorders and its implications for speech\, language and feeding. \nThis workshop focusses on clinical work with children\, with and without cognitive and/or neurological disorders. \nA proficient level of understanding English is necessary to attend. \n\n\n\nDates:\n21 to 23 Mar 2022 (Mon to Wed)\n\n\nTime:\n9.00am – 5.00pm\n\n\nVenue:\nHoliday Inn Singapore Atrium.\n317 Outram Road\nSingapore 169075\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Karin Brinkmann\,\nAfter having worked in her private practice for 25 years\, in 2016 Karin started focussing on mentoring SLP’s\, OT’s and PT’s\, teachers and (professional) caregivers. Her main specialty is children with speech (-motor) and language disorders\, sensory processing disorders\, and/or neurological disorders. \nKarin: “I have been teaching about Sensory Processing since the late 90’s. I focus on speech therapists for this\, because I want them to be able to understand what the role of Sensory Processing is in developing speech\, language\, and feeding skills. I believe it can make treatment easier and more effective as I stress the importance of working in a functional way. Also\, by recognising the children’s individual way of processing information\, it is possible to help them see this as a strength and not as a ‘problem’.” \nKarin has also been a PROMPT instructor since 2008\, and travels the world to teach both PROMPT and Sensory Processing in English\, Dutch and German. \nCourse Outline\nDay 1: \n\n\n\n09:00 – 10:45\nWelcome and introduction\, workshop objectives;\nIntroduction to Sensory Processing\n\n\n10:45 – 11:00\nShort break\n\n\n11:00 – 12:30\nBasic overview of neurology and its application to the understanding of Sensory Processing\n\n\n12:30 – 13:30\nLunch break\n\n\n13:30 – 15:15\nWinnie Dunn’s quadrant model: Understanding sensory profiles\n\n\n15:15 – 15:30\nShort break\n\n\n15:30 – 17:00\nSensory Lifestyle; alertness\, activation and attention\n\n\n\nDay 2: \n\n\n\n09:00 – 10:45\nThe mouth and its role in development\n\n\n10:45 – 11:00\nShort break\n\n\n11:00 – 12:30\nWinnie Dunn’s Sensory Profile\n\n\n12:30 – 13:30\nLunchbreak\n\n\n13:30 – 15:15\nSensory systems: vestibular\, proprioception\, interoception and the quadrant model\, related to oral development\, speech\, language and feeding\n\n\n15:15 – 15:30\nShort break\n\n\n15:30 – 17:00\nSensory systems: tactile and the quadrant model\, related to oral development\, speech\, language and feeding\n\n\n\nDay 3: \n\n\n\n09:00 – 10:45\nSensory systems: Auditory and Visual and the quadrant model\, related to oral development\, speech\, language and feeding\n\n\n10:45 – 11:00\nShort break\n\n\n11:00 – 12:30\nSensory systems: gustatory\, olfactory and the quadrant model\, related to oral development\, speech\, language and feeding\n\n\n12:30 – 13:30\nLunchbreak\n\n\n13:30 – 15:15\nTreatment model and case study\n\n\n15:15 – 15:30\nShort break\n\n\n15:30 – 17:00\nTreatment model and case study (continued);\nDiscussion and evaluation;\nCertificates.\n\n\n\nPlease note: this schedule might be slightly changed at the discretion of the presenter (KB Interactief) \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this workshop the participant will be able to: \n\nDefine Sensory Processing and understand its implication to the field of speech and language therapy;\nUnderstand the role of the senses in the development\, daily functioning and learning;\nApply and interpret the “Sensory Profile”;\nSet up a basic treatment plan using sensory information to reach specific goals for speech-language or feeding therapy.\n\nWho Can Benefit?\nSpeech Language Therapists only \nCourse Fees & Closing Dates\n\n\n\nRegistration Type\nFees (S$) per pax\n\n\n1st 10 registrants\n1740\n\n\nNext 10 registrants\n1840\n\n\nLast 5 registrants\n1950
