Teaching Singing & The Estill Model

Date: 3rd JULY 2019

This practical one-day workshop focuses on the integration of the Estill Model with traditional singing teaching. The day will address the most common problems encountered in the teaching studio, analysing causes, and offering practical solutions. The Estill model gives teachers a clear physical explanation, demystifying the terminology around singing training and reducing the focus on the ear and imagery.

The day's program will include an overview of the Estill Model, common problems encountered in teaching singing & voice - and the Estill solutions, an opportunity for questions and discussion and information on structuring lessons with an Estill focus. The afternoon will conclude with a masterclass.

This workshop is suitable for both those new to  Estill Voice Training as well as those familiar with the model, anyone who teaches singing or who is a singer, either professional or student.

This one day workshop looks at the application of Estill Voice Training™ for clinical voice/ speech therapy. This workshop is aimed specifically at therapists and teachers:

1) Learn about basic vocal function and common biomechanical reasons for impairment.

3) Effective ways to communicate with non professional voice users 4) using the Estill model as basis.
5) Introduction to a hierarchy of skills to support remediation and vocal health.
6) There will be a forum and opportunity for discussion and questions

Making Music Being Well (MMBW) was inaugurated in 2006 in Australia and was extended to Hong Kong in 2011. This is the ninth time this event is being launched in Hong Kong. Your support is crucial to the continuation of this celebration in the future. This non-profit campaign aims to celebrate the links between active music making, and health and well-being across the life span.

This year, MMBW will be conducting 2 events on Music Therapy in Hong Kong, where audience is invited to be a part of the music therapy experience as our Registered Music Therapists share with them who music therapists work with in Hong Kong and what they do.  There will be presentations, workshops and performances. These free-admission events aim to provide the audience with two days of visual and experiential learning to deepen the general public’s understanding of music therapy.


**Day ONE event will be conducted in English and Day TWO event will be conducted in Cantonese to cater for our diverse population in Hong Kong. **


You will get the chance to see

  • music therapists sharing their case studies and what population they work with in Hong Kong,

  • music therapists demonstrating techniques used in therapy sessions,

  • how clients with various needs can learn an instrument, sing in a choir and perform together!
