Diagnostic Terminology for Child Language Disorders in Chinese

2022-04-29 @ 20:00 - 21:00

In June 2020, a special interest group on Terminology for Child Language Disorders (TCLD) was formed in pursuit of agreement in terminology and diagnostic criteria among researchers, speech-language therapists (SLTs), paediatricians and educational professionals.

The TCLD group produced a document in late 2021 summarizing the recommendations on the diagnostic terms and criteria to be used for child speech, language and communication disorders in Hong Kong. It was supplemented by a pre-recorded lecture and a diagnostic label exercise* (link: https://speechtherapy.org.hk/diagnostic-terminology-for-child-language-disorders-in-chinese/).

An online forum was held on 10 December 2021 to let SLTs engage in an open discussion. Participants took part in the event actively to exchange views in relation to the diagnosis and terminologies used for child language disorders. They also raised questions on how they could apply the recommendations to daily clinical practice, too.

The second online forum will be held to further promote professional exchange and application of the framework in speech-language therapy practice. In the session, we will practise the use of the framework on a few hypothetical cases and open the floor for colleagues to raise questions on the 2021 document and other issues related to terminologies.

We strongly encourage all SLTs to read the document, watch the pre-recorded lecture and complete the exercise before the second forum. We look forward to seeing you at the forum!
